Unf*ck Yourself (Book Review)

There’s a big old fad out there right now where people are adding cuss words to stuff to catch your eye and sell it better. I’m down with it because, well, that’s funny and awesome. My own therapist cussed at me once and it was the best day ever and a totally life changing moment. I’m down for the vulgar wave. It doesn’t offend me.

One of my clients told me about a book he was reading that had profanity in the title and he loved it and told me to read it. So when my Audible subscription gave me a new credit I went explorin’. I got the book Unf*ck Yourself by Gary John Bishop and let him read it to me. (Note: this is not the book my client recommended, but there were a lot of similar titles and frankly I liked this one best. lol.)

Gary John is a lovely Scottish man who salts you with shits and peppers you with fucks while you get a heavy helping of no bullshit advise for getting out of your own way and moving forward in your life. Jennifer 1.0 would have passed out from all the cussing. The current version of me loved it. I gobbled up his delightful wit and insightful analogies in record time and since then I genuinely feel like I’m getting out of my own way. I loved him so much I bought his next book “Stop Doing that Sh*t” and am halfway done with that one too.

It’s not revolutionary stuff, and it’s pretty straight-forward ideas backed by some good science. Almost literally nothing I haven’t heard before. So either this book comes at the right time and had fertile soil to land in, or telling me to fucking get over myself was just what I needed to hear. Final assessment: This book was fucking great.
